Dr.Robert P. Melco, DVMVeterinarian/Owner
Dr. Robert Melco has been practicing veterinary medicine in the north metro for over 20 years. He purchased Maple Grove Pet Hospital in 2013 and renamed the hospital Paws and Claws Pet Hospital of Maple Grove. He has been updating the practice to provide the best care possible ever since. Dr. Melco grew up in West St. Paul, MN and graduated from the University of Minnesota's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. His professional interests are small animal medicine, pocket pets, exotics as well as Laser Surgery. Dr. Melco married his wife, Lynn, in 1992 and they have 3 kids. They currently live in Elk River, MN and have 4 dogs, 3 cats, and several chickens. In his free time Dr. Melco enjoys cooking, gardening, canning, fishing and spending time with his wife and kids.
Samantha Kaufman, CVTCertified Veterinary Technician/Office Manager
Samantha joined the staff of Paws and Claws Pet Hospital in December 2016. She worked at East Lake Animal Clinic and Heartland Animal Hospital before joining our team. She graduated with honors from Minnesota School of Business in Lakeville in 2012 and passed her certification exam in December 2012. She has re-certified twice since then and has brought a wealth of knowledge to the clinic to help train other technicians. Samantha grew up in Medford, MN and has lived in several places throughout the state. She currently lives in Zimmerman, MN with her boyfriend Dustin, their daughters Lilly, and Charli. She enjoys spending time with her family (especially outside), singing/music, going to the gym, and trying new food/recipes.
Megan HughesVeterinary Technician Assistant
Megan joined the team at Paws and Claws in June of 2019. She is studying Veterinary medicine and is pre-vet at the U of M. She lives in Brooklyn Park with her 2 rabbits and 2 cats! She enjoys reading, volleyball, and watching movies!
Katherine SchmittVeterinary Technician Assistant
Katie joined the Paws and Claws team in May of 2019. She is working toward her bachelors in animal science with an emphasis in Veterinary Technology. After that, she will be attending a tech college to get her Associates degree in Veterinary Technology to become a CVT. She is from a small town in Wisconsin called Two Rivers. She has a dog named Marley and a beta fish named Leek! She enjoys state parks and camping, being outside, and trying new food!
